As some BFH students had an excursion to a fruit processing plant they recognized that too many fruits are thrown away just because they did not meet the “visual requirements”. So, they decided to start a business and they built a network among suppliers, juice producers and potential customers – MUDA rejuice was born.

Did you know that about 1/3 of the food in Switzerland is wasted? This equals 140’000 trucks full of food that are strung together from Zurich to Madrid! MUDA rejuice is an example how small local companies can improve the sustainability within the food industry and fight food waste. How they do it: they collect the leftovers from the fruit processing plants every day and produce juice out of them. With one juice, they save up to 1 kilogram of fruit waste which would otherwise end up in a biogas plant.
Your turn – 5 ways how you can improve sustainability and reduce food waste in your everyday life:
Buy smart and only as much as you need – never go to the supermarket when you are unorganized or hungry
Store the food correctly at home – this improves the keepability
Cook smaller portions
Cook in a creative way – use one day per week to cook with leftovers
Cook together with family and friends
