Greenest city worldwide

When setting foot in copenhagen the first thing one realizes are the vast amount of people riding their bikes. Approximately 45% of the population rides their bikes to work every single day and most of them even during winter time. In order to make cycling more attractive the city has built bicycle paths who are now known internationally. A so called green wave route has been implemented in order to make sure that cyclists can commute simply and fast. Anyone that cycles at 20 km per hour will hit all green lights.

This development is only one of the measurements the government has worked on in order to reach their ambitious goal of being carbon neutral by 2025. This would make Denmark’s capital to the first carbon neutral city in the whole world. 10% of the total CO2 reduction will be met via the transportation sector.

Swiss cities have a lot to improve when it comes to that point. Basel-Stadt and Winterthur who are supposed to show the highest percentage of people riding their bikes regulary are with 19% and 16% still way behind copenhagen. As the picture below shows Switzerland is far away of being role model when it comes to comuting by bicycle:

Just so you know...the excuses concerning the weather conditions can’t be accepted as Copenhagen has at least 18 rainy days more per year than we Swiss people do.
